Medical Technologist I, Second Shift, Core Lab Department

UC Health is hiring a part-time Medical Technologist I for the core lab department for second shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. We’re offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus!

The Medical Technologist I performs routine and complex laboratory analyses, identifies and corrects problems within the scope of training, stays current in laboratory theory and technique, assumes responsibility for problem solving, and requires the exercise of independent judgment and interpretation.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in science (biology, chemistry, etc.).
  • Preferred: An associate degree in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
  • MLT(ASCP) certification or equivalent is preferred.
  • Laboratory experience preferred.

Expected starting salary range for this position is between $27.33/hr. - $33.78/hr.

The actual pay rate will depend on factors such as experience, skills, internal candidate comparison, marketplace, and other requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Engages in population-appropriate communication.
  • Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/families regarding treatment, involving family/guardians in care.
  • Identifies physical limitations and deploys interventions when necessary.
  • Recognizes and responds to behavioral health problems.
  • Interprets data and plans care accordingly, considering psychological and cultural needs.
  • Performs treatments, administers medication, or operates equipment safely.
  • Recognizes signs of abuse or neglect and responds appropriately.
  • Performs and reports routine and complex laboratory analyses using protocols and independent judgment.
  • Coordinates testing steps for maximum productivity.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs laboratory equipment, including preventive maintenance and safety checks.
  • Keeps informed of equipment issues and resolutions.
  • Maintains currency through mandatory training, policy review, and continuing education.
  • Performs and records quality control procedures, evaluates results, and implements corrective actions.
  • Obtains blood specimens via venipuncture or skin puncture within scope and competency.
  • Processes specimens for testing and transit, evaluates sample acceptability, and follows safety policies.
