Cook County Health & Hospitals System seeks a Medical Technologist I for Neurophysiology duties at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital.

The role performs EEGs, EP studies, and assists with seizure induction and Botox injections in adults and children. Under supervision of the Neurophysiology Laboratory Medical Director, you will maintain equipment, manage inventory, ensure infection control, and support patient registration and scheduling while advancing quality improvement and confidentiality

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required (proof at interview).
  • Prior neurophysiology laboratory technician experience required.
  • Knowledge of EEG, EMG, evoked potentials and intraoperative monitoring.

Responsibilities

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at CCH. JOB SUMMARY


Under the supervision of the Medical Director of the Neurophysiology Laboratory, performs neurophysiology tests to include electroencephalograms (EEGS), evoked potential (EP) studies, and clinical video recording including video-EEG studies on adults and children. Assists physician performance of seizure induction studies, electromyograms (EMGs), and Botulinum toxin (Botox) injections. Maintains equipment, monitors inventory, and tracks laboratory output.


Typical Duties

Performs electroencephalograms (EEGS) and evoked potential (EP) studies on adults and children


Assists physician performance of seizure induction studies, electromyograms (EMGs), and Botulinum toxin (Botox) injections


Maintains laboratory records including monthly activity reports


Monitors laboratory supplies and issues monthly inventory reports


Keeps a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment


Understands and follows all infection disease guidelines and protocols


Assists in patient registration, phone management, appointment scheduling, and physician reminders, as required


Assists in laboratory Quality Improvement initiatives


Maintains current laboratory and computer skills


Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED certificate, is required. (Must provide proof at time of interview)


Prior experience as a Neurophysiology laboratory technician is required.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

Knowledge of the basic principles, concepts, and practices associated with performing as a Medical Technologist in a hospital or health caresetting


Knowledge of electroencephalography, electromyography, and visual, auditory, and somatosensory evoked potentials, and intraoperative evoked potential monitoring.


Knowledge and understanding to maintain neurophysiology laboratory equipment and address minor repairs as needed.


Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups


Well-developed interpersonal and leadership skills.


Demonstrate analytical and organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking and conflict management/resolution skills


Computer program skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic medical record.


Skill to solve technical problems.


Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when challenged


Ability to enhance learning and continue educational development


Ability to maintain inventory, chart lab activities, perform data storage operations.


Ability to meet appropriate confidentiality standards for protected health Information (PHI)


Ability to adhere to department policies and standards utilizing best practices incorporating the use of electronic health record (EHR)


The physical ability to do lifting up to 45 pounds, walk and stand for prolonged periods, use hands, legs and fingers. Demonstrates physical, mental, and muscular coordination, see and hear clearly (including with correction), tolerates exposure to unpleasant noise, odor and temperature.


Physical and Environmental Demands

This position is functioning within a healthcare environment. The incumbent is responsible for adherence to all hospital and department specific safety requirements. This includes but is not limited to the following policies and procedures: complying with Personal Protective Equipment requirements, hand washing and sanitizing practices, complying with department specific engineering and work practice controls and any other work area safety precautions as specified by hospital wide policy and departmental procedures.
