Primary Purpose

Responsible for basic specimen processing and testing to assist physicians in the diagnosis of patients.

Minimum Specifications
  1. Education: Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Experience: None required.
  3. Certification/Registration/Licensure: Must be certified by one of the following or eligible with certification obtained within 6 months of hire:
    1. Medical Technologist (MT) - ASCP
    2. Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - ASCP
    3. Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) - NCA
    4. Medical Technologist (MT) - AMT
    5. Technologist, Blood Banking (BB) - ASCP
    6. Technologist, Chemistry (C) - ASCP
    7. Technologist, Hematology (H) - ASCP
    8. Technologist, Microbiology (M) - ASCP
    9. Technologist, Molecular Biology (MB) - ASCP
  4. Required Skills and Abilities:
    • Follow all laboratory procedures accurately.
    • Demonstrate working knowledge of laboratory techniques.
    • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
    • Identify and address problems affecting test results.
    • Maintain accurate records, follow instructions, and communicate effectively with hospital personnel and medical staff.
    • Use laboratory and hospital computer systems appropriately within three months of employment.
Responsibilities
  1. Receive specimens, assess integrity, verify labeling and documentation, and enter data for billing.
  2. Perform specimen processing, reagent preparation, testing, and report results.
  3. Conduct quality control tasks, maintain documentation, and troubleshoot equipment.
  4. Assist in training new employees, residents, students, and physicians in laboratory procedures.
  5. Participate in the Pathology Quality Assurance program.
  6. Identify process improvements and make recommendations to enhance customer satisfaction.
  7. Stay updated on developments in the field by attending seminars, reading journals, and applying new knowledge.
  8. Follow applicable laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines, reporting unethical or fraudulent behavior as necessary.
