Job summary

Watson Clinic is seeking a Medical Technologist to perform and document routine as well as complex testing across multiple departments. The role requires active Florida licensure in Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology, with willingness to float to different locations as needed.

Candidates should hold at least an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology and be comfortable operating automated analyzers and the LIS.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology with active Florida licensure in specified specialties.
  • Registry preferred (ASCP/AMT/AAB).
  • Clinical laboratory experience with automated equipment and complex testing is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and complex manual and automated tests as ordered by the physician.
  • Maintains quality control records, documents errors, and implements corrective action.
  • Schedules and documents instrument maintenance and troubleshoots equipment issues.
  • Notifies the ordering physician of critical results with complete documentation.
  • Operates LIS and stays current with system updates.
  • Participates in proficiency testing and QA programs.
  • Ensures specimen integrity and proper handling to maintain test accuracy.
  • Willing to float to other locations as staffing needs arise.

Description

* The location of this position may vary depending on staffing needs. You may be required to float to other locations.

Essential Functions
  • Performs accurate and reproducible results of routine and complex manual and automated testing as ordered by the physician producing results in a timely manner
  • Performs and understands quality control programs including evaluation of values, documentation of errors and corrective action, and the maintenance of records in the appropriate logs
  • Performs and records scheduled equipment maintenance, troubleshooting of equipment problems, and provides immediate notification to department supervisor in the event of any malfunctions
  • Recognizes normal and life‑threatening results and follows protocol for notification of results to the ordering physician along with complete and legible documentation on worksheets and in the LIS
  • Proficient operation of the LIS and other computer related programs. Maintains competency with changes and upgrades to each system
  • Participates in Proficiency Testing programs in addition to other departmental quality assurance programs
  • Comprehends the importance of specimen integrity and recognizes any events that may compromise the quality of testing and reporting of results.
  • Consent to assume other duties as required by department
Requirements
Required Education and Experience:

Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related Science degree along with the successful completion of an approved formal training program in Medical Technology. Active State of Florida license as a Medical Technologist with licensure in the following specialties: Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Microbiology, Molecular Pathology.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Experience in a clinical laboratory setting involving the analysis of blood, tissue and body fluids utilizing automated equipment and specialized instrumentation while performing numerous complicated tests simultaneously and accurately interpreting the results.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

Registry with either ASCP, AMT, or AAB preferred.
