Job Summary

The Medical Technologist Lead at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for assisting the supervisor with scheduling, quality control, maintenance programs, and workflow organization. This role also includes ensuring the accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment, and specimens while adhering to all relevant laws and regulations.

Job Functions
  • Coordinates workflow of phlebotomists in the Specimen Processing area.
  • Serves as Charge Medical Technologist (MT) in absence of supervisor or Lead MT.
  • Ensures accurate and efficient transportation of lab supplies, equipment, and specimens.
  • Follows all laws and regulations in processing and transporting laboratory specimens.
  • Handles and processes specimens according to regulatory guidelines, ensuring proper patient identification and labeling.
Communication & Customer Service
  • Effectively communicates with NMHS staff, patients, families, and customers.
  • Uses AIDET and attends CARES training.
  • Provides proper service recovery when necessary.
  • Answers calls politely and efficiently.
Reporting & Recordkeeping
  • Reports department testing accurately and timely.
  • Participates in department performance improvement initiatives.
  • Documents instrument maintenance and quality control regularly.
Education & Regulation
  • Assists in training students and new employees.
  • Participates in continuing education and stays updated on regulatory changes.
  • Adheres to all applicable policies, procedures, guidelines, laws, and standards such as CAP and CLSI.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, or related field (Required)

Licenses & Certifications: ASCP certification within 12 months of graduation (Required), Valid Driver’s License (Preferred)

Work Experience & Skills

Proficiency with LIS, good organizational and communication skills, knowledge of biohazardous specimen handling, and ability to evaluate processes for optimal performance.
