Primary Purpose

Responsible for basic specimen processing and testing to assist physicians in diagnosing patients.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience

• None required.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

• Must be certified by one of the following or eligible with certification obtained within 6 months of hire:

• Medical Technologist (MT) - ASCP
• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - ASCP
• Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) - NCA
• Medical Technologist (MT) - AMT
• Technologist, Blood Banking (BB) - ASCP
• Technologist, Chemistry (C) - ASCP
• Technologist, Hematology (H) - ASCP
• Technologist, Microbiology (M) - ASCP
• Technologist, Molecular Biology (MB) - ASCP

Skills and Abilities

• Follow all laboratory procedures accurately.
• Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory techniques.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Identify and resolve issues affecting test results.
• Maintain accurate records, follow instructions, and communicate effectively.
• Use laboratory and hospital computer systems within three months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Receive and assess specimens, verify labeling and documentation, and enter data for billing.
• Perform specimen processing, reagent preparation, testing, and report results.
• Conduct quality control tasks, maintain documentation, and troubleshoot equipment.
• Assist with training and consultation for staff and students.
• Participate in quality assurance programs and suggest process improvements.
• Stay updated on field developments through seminars, journals, and publications.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
