DETAILS

  • Work Schedule: 40 hours/week, Monday – Friday, 7 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Work Location: Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Chicago, IL

TASKS

(1) Perform a full range of automated and non-automated laboratory procedures in the areas of chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, serology, bacteriology, and immunohematology according to established protocols.

(2) Evaluate the suitability of the specimen for analysis, requesting new specimen if determined to be unusable. Prepare specimens for analysis; ensuring that the physiologic states of the specimen properties are maintained.

(3) Select, perform, evaluate, and monitor the performance of test procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques in accordance with established protocols.

(4) Conduct quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products and maintain proper records for quality control reports.

(5) Calibrate, standardize, adjust, and maintain instruments. Verify correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks and monitoring

(6) Perform additional tests to clarify or confirm abnormal patient results. Recognize abnormal results that require immediate attention by the physician and reports them directly.

(7) Generate laboratory results from the work area for entry into the laboratory computer system.

(8) Edit and verify results recorded into the computer system.

(9) Accession and receive samples into VA laboratory information system package

(10) Assist with and perform patient specimen collection as needed along with administrative support for the area

QUALIFICATIONS

(1) Minimum of bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science from a clinical laboratory science program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

(2) Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT)

(3) Minimum of one year experience in the last three years.

(4) Current BLS certification

(5) US citizenship as per contract requirements to complete background check and security clearance processes
