Job summary

The University of Miami is seeking a Medical Technologist 1 (H) to perform routine and complex analyses on blood and body fluids, review results, and collaborate with physicians and laboratory management to ensure accurate patient data. The role requires an Associate’s degree and a Florida Medical Technologist License, with availability for evenings, nights, and weekends.

Training and support are provided within an academic medical center setting.

Qualifications

  • Prepare cultures of tissue samples.
  • Establish and monitor programs that ensure data accuracy.
  • Examine slides of bodily fluids using microscope or other relevant equipment.
  • Crossmatch blood for transfusions.
  • Analyze urine chemistry to identify toxic components and collect and study blood samples to determine morphology.
  • Evaluate laboratory reports for accuracy.
  • Operate, calibrate, and safeguard laboratory equipment.
  • Deliver test results to physicians, researchers, and patients.
  • Identify unusual results and take action to correct and resolve problems.

Job description

SUMMARY

The Medical Technologist 1 (H) performs and analyzes routine blood, urinalysis, and coagulation procedures, and reviews the results of complex scientific tests on blood and bodily fluids. Additionally, the incumbent collaborates with physicians and laboratory management on patient data.

Education: Associate’s degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing: Current Florida Medical Technologist License

Experience: Minimum 1 years of relevant preferred.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
  • Responsible for the Point of Care Activities in Sole Mia building and North Satellites
  • Responsible of the monthly POCT Nursing training.
  • Responsible of setting up, maintaining, troubleshooting QC for each analyte for each nursing unit.
  • Responsible for the initial training records, yearly re-certification, QA, Critical value monitoring and verification, audit trails, unit assessment, correlation studies, parallel testing, etc.
  • Perform Semiannual linearities.
  • Responsible for the process and documentation of the Proficiency Testing for each analyte/each nursing department.
  • Responsible for validating, implementing, and monitoring all current and new POCT methodologies.
  • Monitor critical value results making sure of the exiting record of the provider notified.
  • Visit all the areas on weekly basis to make sure that instruments are working properly, also all the Nursing staff needs are resolved.
  • Any other activities assigned by Supervisor.
