Department: University Hospital | Critical Care Laboratory
SCOPE OF POSITION
The Critical Care Laboratory (CCL) provides comprehensive, time-sensitive laboratory services to patients with various diagnoses. It utilizes a state-of-the-art total laboratory automation (TLA) system that processes specimens for chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, and coagulation analyzers. Additional testing areas include specialized coagulation, urinalysis, body fluid analysis, blood gas, rapid molecular, and kit testing. The lab also provides training for residents, new staff, and medical technology students. The laboratory operates 24/7, servicing inpatient areas, the University Reference Laboratory, and OSU Physician Office testing needs.
POSITION SUMMARY
This medical technologist performs routine automated and manual procedures, verifies and reports test requests, troubleshoots analyzers, reviews quality control values, and handles inquiries from internal and external customers. All work is under the supervision of division directors, managers, and lead technologists.
Minimum Education Required
A 4-year college degree or higher from an accredited program (NAACLS or equivalent). Medical Laboratory Technicians with an Associate of Science from an appropriate program may also be considered for the Med Lab Tech- Testing role.
Required Qualifications
A degree in Medical Laboratory Technology with ASCP/AMT, MT, or MLS certification is required. Certification is a condition of employment; if not certified, the applicant must obtain MLS certification within one year of hire, with the first exam attempt within six months.
