Job summary

GBMC HealthCare is seeking a clinical laboratory professional to perform diagnostic testing on blood and other specimens under general supervision. You will ensure accurate processing, reporting and QC across instruments and reagents.

The role involves calibration, instrument maintenance, supervising students, and contributing to quality improvement efforts within a collaborative laboratory team in Baltimore. Strong communication and documentation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or applicable science with experience or an AS degree with experience.
• Certification eligible in Medical Technology preferred but not required.
• Ability to report results accurately, orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic (waived, moderate, and highly complex) testing on blood and other specimens.
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments; troubleshoot minor malfunctions.
• Document quality control procedures and take corrective actions as needed.
• Supervise students and train new or less skilled staff as needed.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education.

Ensures accurate processing of samples, actual performance of tests and reporting of results.Calibrates, conducts performance checks, and maintains a variety of clinical laboratory instruments and equipment; recognizes and corrects basic instrument malfunctions.Prepares reagents or media from a prescribed procedure or from the literature.Conducts and documents established quality control procedures on analytical tests, equipment, reagents, medias and products; evaluates results of quality control and implements corrective action when indicated.Orients and supervises students and new or less skilled laboratory personnel to include presentation and discussion of the scientific principles, as needed.Monitors quality improvement process through evaluation of quality control and participates in gathering of information on current QI indicators.Develops new programs and monitors effectiveness of change, as a member of a multi-functional teamActively participates in the Laboratory's continuing education program and meets requirement as described in the Laboratory Continuing Education Policy.
