A leading healthcare provider seeks a qualified technician in phlebotomy at a prominent Iowa hospital. This role involves blood collection, patient interaction, and various supportive tasks within the laboratory. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong skills in patient care, computer use, and customer service while maintaining high standards for specimen collection.
This position is located in the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS) at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines, IA. The technician performs phlebotomy in various hospital areas, including emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and extended care facilities. The incumbent also handles computer tasks, customer service, instruction, and communication duties.
English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), proficiency in basic written and spoken English is required for direct patient care roles. The position requires experience in performing phlebotomy/blood draws on human patients, which is a Selective Placement Factor and a minimum qualification.
Experience and Education: Applicants must have six months of general and six months of specialized experience related to laboratory work or an educational background including coursework in chemistry or biological sciences, plus relevant training. Documentation of education and experience is required.
