Job summary

Compass Connections seeks a Care Provider to support pediatric service populations on campus. The role requires bilingual English/Spanish fluency, an EMT/MA/CNA credential, and current BLS; familiarity with HIPAA and EMR systems is essential.

Qualifications

  • Required – High school diploma or GED.
  • Current EMT, Medical Assistant Certificate, or Certified Nursing Assistant License; current BLS; First aid; CPR.
  • Experience working with pediatric populations including developmentally disabled persons.
  • Working knowledge of vitals, blood draws, ordering labs, medications and vaccines.
  • Working knowledge of EMR systems and health information workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and maintain all federal and state regulatory guidelines for this position.
  • Communicate with health care providers and liaise between medical and residential services divisions.
  • Maintain inventory of medications and supplies; ensure expiry dates and proper storage.
  • Ensure proper disposal of unused and expired medications.
  • Maintain electronic health records and relevant portals.
  • Develop and maintain MAR for each child.
  • Administer prescribed meds to children.
  • Carry out treatment orders promptly as directed by physicians or APPs.
  • Assist in MAR audits and report medication errors to RN Manager.
  • Compile daily medical lists for distribution.
  • Assist in transporting children to on-campus clinic appointments.
  • Maintain first aid kits per licensing standards.
  • Assist in scheduling of medical appointments and intake process.
  • Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA/PHI and Compass policies.
  • Adhere to scheduled hours and on-call requirements; evenings/weekends/holidays as needed.
  • Apply positive behavior management techniques and de-escalation when needed.
  • Recognize signs of abuse/neglect and respond appropriately.
  • Show professional care and compassion toward children; avoid cultural misinterpretations.
  • Plan and prioritize daily work with sound judgment.
  • Implement safety protocols including emergency evacuations.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all program operations and dress code compliance.
  • Monitor health care plans as prescribed; complete documentation per policies and timelines.
  • Meet pre-determined deadlines required by program and partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work experience:

Candidate must have good organizational and communication skills, textbook knowledge of and professional experience working with pediatric age group including developmentally disabled persons, professional experience working in a health care setting. Must also have working knowledge of vitals, blood draws, ordering labs, medication administration and administration of vaccines/injections. Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records Systems

Critical Action Items & Measurable Deliverables:
  • Meet and maintain all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards applicable to this position.
  • Communicate effectively with health care providers regarding care for service population and be a liaison between the medical and residential services divisions.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of all medications/supplies, ensure medications/supplies are within date and properly stored.
  • Ensure proper disposal of unused and expired medications.
  • Maintain electronic medical health care records and federal Medical Portal.
  • Develop and maintain an accurate medication administration record (MAR) for each child.
  • Administer prescription and over the counter medication to children.
  • Carry out all treatment orders as directed by physician or advanced practice provider (APP) to ensure physician and/or APP orders are implemented immediately upon request.
  • Assist in daily MAR audits, ensuring proper documentation. Reporting all medication errors to RN Manager.
  • Compile daily medical lists to be distributed appropriately.
  • Assist in transport of children to and from the on-campus clinic for medical appointments.
  • Maintain first aid kits per licensing standards.
  • Assist in scheduling of medical appointments.
  • Assist in medical intake process.
  • Maintain confidentiality of health care records and information in keeping with HIPAA, Protected Health Information (PHI) requirements and Compass Connections confidentiality protocol and procedures.
  • Adhere to scheduled hours pertaining to position, remain available for on-call scheduling, and work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed, requested, or deemed appropriate by Deputy Executive Director, Medical Services and Executive Director.
  • Know, understand, and apply positive behavior management techniques including verbal redirection, deescalation, and containment.
  • Know and recognize the signs of abuse, neglect, and exploitation and sexually provocative behavior and implement professional response, reporting and documenting procedures.
  • Show appreciation and affection toward children in a manner that is compassionate and professional, minimizing cultural misinterpretations.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize daily work using sound judgment.
  • Implement Compass Connections safety protocols including evacuating with children and other staff in case of an emergency.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the service population and program operations.
  • Maintain Compass Connections professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in Compass Connections employee handbook including demonstrating respect for agency staff, children, and community members and complying with required dress code at all times.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Monitor established health care plans for service population as prescribed by an advanced practice provider or physician and applying best practice guidelines.
  • Complete accurate documentation in accordance with agency policies and procedures, contract and regulatory requirements and standards and program timeline requirements.
  • Meet all pre-determined deadlines required by program and federal partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment.
  • Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
  • Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.

  • Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
  • Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all Compass Connections policies and procedures.
  • Must complete and sign Operations Policy and Procedure review and certification.
  • Must provide current physical-medical release and provide proof of immunizations, titers, or declinations for the following:
  • MMR
  • Varicella
  • HepB
  • HepA
  • Tetanus
  • PPD
  • Meningococcal (preferred)
  • Must be able to perform physical activity such as extensive walking, lifting of patients, stretching, and bending.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to maintain professional people skills, including oral, written, listening, and non-verbal communication skills.
