Job summary

US Military Treatment Facilities under DHA in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician for a Direct Hire opportunity. US Citizens only.

You will qualify through one year of specialized laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with ASCP/AMT certification or equivalent required. Education may be substituted for work experience per Federal guidelines.

Qualifications

  • One year of specialized experience performing a full range of clinical lab procedures including specimen processing, chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, immunohematology and/or microbiological testing, plus calibrating or maintaining instruments.
  • One year of graduate-level education in medical lab science, chemistry, biology or related field.
  • Combination of education and experience may be used, with percentage computed as months of experience divided by 12 plus graduate hours divided by 18.
  • Licensure/certification from ASCP, AMT or equivalent as MLT/MT/MLS required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working in a clinical laboratory performing a full range of procedures such as specimen processing, chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, immunohematology and/or microbiological testing and calibrating or maintaining clinical laboratory instruments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as medical lab science, chemistry, biology or other medical or science related degrees.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

AND Licensure: Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT); Medical Technologist (MT); or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) is required.
