Job summary

Great River Health Systems is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform complex lab procedures and support patient care across age groups. You will analyze QC data, maintain accuracy, and document all steps per policy.

The role may involve phlebotomy and assisting with specimen handling, inventory, and staff training as needed to ensure high-quality lab results.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor level degrees in laboratory science or medical technology.
  • ASCP/AMT certification preferred or equivalent.
  • Experience with lab information systems and basic computer skills encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests according to guidelines.
  • Identify problems affecting test performance and troubleshoot.
  • Potentially perform phlebotomy and assist in specimen receiving.
  • Maintain complete documentation for the laboratory process.

Job description

Job Details: $15,000 Sign on Bonus for Eligible Candidates! Scheduled Hours: 3:00pm - 11:30pm Job Description: Performs tests and procedures in assigned sections, including those which require exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimum supervision. Independently performs qualitative and quantitative tests, following established guidelines and predetermined criteria. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and/or results and uses knowledge, critical thinking skills, and judgment to troubleshoot and resolve them. May perform phlebotomy and help in specimen receiving, as assigned.

What you will do

Performs complex laboratory procedures utilized for the diagnosis and treatment of disease as appropriate for patient age to include neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults; recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles, and maintains complete and accurate documentation per the departments policies and procedures for the entire laboratory process. Analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning the results, and takes appropriate action to maintain test accuracy and precision. Operates laboratory information systems, PC, and instrument-related computer software. Performs new instrument and/or testing method/procedure implementation and training, preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting of instrumentation and equipment. Additionally, may be responsible for performing phlebotomy on all patient age groups. Investigates complaints about service and equipment and take corrective action. Assists with processing laboratory samples, as well as ordering and maintaining adequate supply inventory, and training/orientation of new staff and/or students and participate in ongoing education.

Qualifications
  • Medical Tech (MT/MLS) Associate’s Degree (AA) in laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited program
  • Required or Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in chemical, physical, or biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Required or Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) which is not in chemical, physical, or biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology, must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution that must include 24 semester hours of science courses consisting of the following; six semester hours of chemistry; six semester hours of biology; and twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical technology in any combination; and at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing. The three months of documented lab training is not required prior to hire but must be performed prior to releasing patient results independently.
  • Required Clinical laboratory experience
