Job summary

McLeod Health is seeking a patient care assistant to support nursing staff by performing basic clinical tasks under licensed supervision. The role includes vital signs collection, wound care support, nutrition assistance, and ensuring cleanliness and safety within the unit.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED and either phlebotomy, CNA, or EMT certification or related clinical experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Phlebotomy, CNA or EMT certification or 1 year of clinical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work in accordance with the competency document.
• Maintain a professional image and exhibit excellent customer relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
• Assist with patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse, performing tasks such as obtaining vital signs, wound care, intake/output, specimen collection, and other activities with verified competency.
• Perform or assist with nutritional/hydration interventions (feeding, providing fluids, or snacks).
• Support the optimal daily operation of the department through general unit organization, cleanliness, supply maintenance, and clerical duties.
• Initiate and maintain the hygiene/cleanliness of patients, the patient environment, and the unit environment.
• Assist with patient transportation and use appropriate health and safety equipment to protect patients and staff.
• Foster an environment that demonstrates caring, compassion, and respect for all patients, families, and visitors.
• Contribute to overall departmental performance and actively participate in problem‑solving initiatives.
• Float to other departments as needed.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
