Medical Support Assistant (MSA) or Certified Medical Assistant I (CMA I) - Stephenson Cancer Center at Hillcrest

Job Description:

This position may be filled as either Medical Support Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant I, depending on experience, expertise, and qualifications.

Location:

Stephenson Cancer Center at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Shift:

Full-Time (40 hours/week) Monday-Friday 8a-5p

Overview:

The Medical Support Assistant works alongside Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers to provide direct patient care according to state and federal guidelines. This role involves performing clinical and administrative duties and helping patients feel at ease and understand provider instructions.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provides direct patient care including taking vitals, patient history, referrals, and patient phone messages under supervision.
  • Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate.
  • Assists in patient assessment and re-assessment.
  • Monitors and documents patient status.
  • Handles large call volumes with excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Organizes workflow to meet patient needs promptly.
  • May retrieve and transport instruments and supplies.
  • Follows standard precautions to minimize exposure to hazards.
  • Stocks exam rooms, manages inventory, and orders supplies.
  • Coordinates scheduling with healthcare professionals and facilities.
  • Assists with procedures, maintaining sterile fields and proper specimen labeling.
  • Gathers and documents patient condition data, including lab values, pain levels, and education needs.
  • Performs sterilization and disinfection of scopes and instruments per manufacturer instructions.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements (MSA):
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: 0-3 years in patient care as a Medical Assistant or similar role preferred.
  • Certification: BLS (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
Minimum Requirements (CMA I):
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred.
  • Experience: 0-3 years in patient care preferred.
  • Certification: BLS (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire. Additionally, one of the following certifications is required upon hire:
    • Medical Assistant - AMT
    • Registered Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Personnel
    • Registered Medical Assistant - American Allied Health
    • Certified Medical Assistant - AAMA
    • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant - NHA
    • National Certified Medical Assistant - NCCT
    • Nationally Registered CMA - National Association for Health Professionals
