About the Clinic:

The Gynecology Oncology Clinic is an outpatient ambulatory facility at Stephenson Cancer Center with 11-15 providers. We provide care and perform surgeries for gynecological cancers and are passionate about advancing patient care through research. This environment is fast-paced and collaborative, requiring excellent communication skills, multitasking ability, and a willingness to learn.

Role Overview:

The Medical Support Assistant collaborates with Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers to deliver direct patient care in accordance with state and federal guidelines. The role involves clinical and administrative duties, as well as ensuring patients feel comfortable and understand provider instructions.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provides direct patient care, including taking vitals, patient history, referrals, and managing patient phone messages under supervision.
  • Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate.
  • Assists in patient assessment and re-assessment.
  • Monitors and documents patient status.
  • Handles a high call volume with professionalism.
  • Organizes workflow to meet patient needs promptly.
  • Retrieves and transports instruments and supplies as needed.
  • Follows standard precautions to minimize exposure to hazards.
  • Stocks exam rooms, manages inventory, and orders supplies.
  • Coordinates scheduling with healthcare professionals and facilities.
  • Assists with procedures, maintaining sterile technique when necessary.
  • Collects and documents patient information, including labs, pain levels, education needs, and potential complications.
  • Performs sterilization and disinfection of scopes, probes, and instruments per manufacturer instructions.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: 0-3 years in patient care as a Medical Assistant or similar role preferred.
  • License/Certification: Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Professional interaction with healthcare practitioners and patients.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to observe, gather, and document relevant information.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to complete tasks accurately.
  • Maintains composure in challenging situations.
