INTEGRIS Health is seeking a Medical Staff Specialist at our Corporate Office in Oklahoma City, OK. The role serves as a liaison among the medical staff, advanced practice professionals, legal counsel and administration to manage credentialing, regulatory compliance and Joint Commission standards.

  • Collaborates with department chairs and Credentials Committee to review applicants and privileges requested.
  • Supports Chief Medical Officer and Chief Hospital Executive in knowledge of credentialing applications, Medical Staff Bylaws and governance.
  • Ensures compliance with Joint Commission standards, federal and state guidelines and regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Assists with Physician Orientation/Onboarding for new Medical Staff appointees.
  • Maintains provider privileges and rosters with board approval and resignation dates.
  • Maintains confidentiality of provider credentials and sensitive information.

Responsibilities

The Medical Staff Specialist serves functions as a liaison between the medical staff, advanced practice professionals, legal counsel and administration with regard to credentialing processes, interpretation and application of Joint Commission standards, medical/legal issues, state and federal guidelines and regulatory agency guidelines as they relate to credentialing, peer review and compliance issues.

The Medical Staff Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develops, manages and administers medical staff and advanced practice professional credentialing processes for hospital privileges.
  • Collaborates with department chairs and chairman of the Credentials Committee to review applicants and privileges requested.
  • Supports Chief Medical Office and Chief Hospital Executive in knowledge of credentialing applications, Medical Staff Bylaws and governance.
  • Ensures compliance with Joint Commission standards, federal and state guidelines and regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Assists with the administration of Physician Orientation/Onboarding for newly appointed Medical Staff appointees.
  • Assists with developing and ensuring compliance with the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and hospital policies.
  • Reviews and screens highly sensitive credentialing documents.
  • Verifies applicant information and ensure the application process is completed in a timely manner.
  • Organizes and prepares meeting agendas and documents to be presented for Credentialing Committee and/or, Medical Executive Committee, and Medical Quality Committee (facility specific).
  • Provides appropriate reporting of minutes for Medical Staff Committees to the Board of Directors.
  • Supports the Department Chairs, Credentials Chairman and Medical Staff President in medical staff functions, OPPE/FPPE, Bylaws and Rules and Regulations.
  • Maintains provider privileges and serves as a resource for verification of privileges and affiliation.
  • Maintains accurate and timely rosters of credentialed medical staff with board approval dates and resignation dates.
  • Utilizes credentialing database and mainframe software programs.
  • Accurately maintains the credentialing database.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts an draw valid conclusions.
  • Maintains oversight of the practitioner data.
  • Accurately tracks, reports and follows up on the status of credentialing applications.
  • Maintains a strict degree of confidentiality in all areas related to provider credentials, status and provider personal information
  • Familiar with all credentialing department policies and procedures.
  • Participates in miscellaneous audit projects throughout the year as required.
  • Identifies ways to improve work, processes and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Experience
  • One to three years of Medical Staff/Credentialing experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission and NCQA standards and medical/legal requirements related to credentialing, peer review and compliance.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
License/Certifications
  • Certification by the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) as a Certified Professional in Medical Staff Services Management (CPMSM) or a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) preferred
