Qualifications

The Brownsville Clinical Research Unit (CRU), part of the UTHealth School of Public Health, is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Medical Sonographer to join our team. The CRU is a specialized clinic conducting a variety of community-based research studies and clinical trials. Many of these studies require echocardiograms as part of their protocols, including both baseline and follow-up exams. As a vital member of our 12-person team, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of imaging for research participants.

Position Summary:

Operates ultrasound equipment and performs a variety of technical procedures to produce images for patient diagnosis.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Assists in the operation of ultrasound equipment and records results. Adjusts parameters on equipment, and reviews calibrations to assure that scans are reproducible under similar conditions.
  • Assists with research activities.
  • Performs basic maintenance on equipment to assure proper working conditions.
  • May participate in diagnosis process to access maternal and fetal well-being.
  • Assists with research activities by collecting data and participating in research projects.
  • Demonstrates the use of ultrasound equipment and techniques to assist with the education of students, nurses, residents, patients, and physicians.
  • Attend continuing education seminars to stay abreast of technological advances in ultrasound and antenatal testing.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or become registered within one year of employment.

Minimum Education/ Experience:
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology or its equivalent.

Physical Requirements:
  • Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:
  • Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
