Job description

MEDICAL SECRETARY – Maternity Leave Contract commencing June – January 2026 (with possible extension)

Davis Recruitment is a specialist agency for the placement of Permanent Support Staff to the Medical/Healthcare Sector.

Our client is a well-established service provider to medical specialists who have been providing anaesthetic and perioperative medicine services to the communities of South-East Queensland since July 2001. This group of medical specialists have successfully built a reputation among surgeons and patients for providing safe, reliable, compassionate and quality healthcare.

An opportunity has presented for an enthusiastic and mature-mindedMedical Secretaryto join their team in Milton on a fixed term Maternity Leave basis.This practice continues to increase in size and currently has 30 practitioners all of whom are specialist anaesthetists in private practice.

This opportunity will offer the right candidate a fixed term contract commencing inJune 2025 until January 2026(with the high possibility of extension). This role is offered as 3, 4 or 5 days per week. Applicants seeking any of these options are encouraged to apply. Hours are generally 9am-5pm. You will work closely with an allocated number of anaesthetists for whom you will provide dedicated support to. This position is situated ‘back of house’ therefore would be best suited to a candidate not seeking a position where daily, face-to-face patient contact is preferred.

Candidates who enjoy the medical billing and quoting aspect of a medical specialist practice are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key duties and responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Professional handling of telephone and email enquiries from all stakeholders, assisting specialists with general enquiries and distributing messages to the relevant specialists in a timely manner
  • Accurately and efficiently processing all patient quotes and billing and liaising closely with the relevant third parties and referring specialists rooms for any additional information required to confirm theatre lists
  • Providing patients with informed financial consent and quotes, accounts and receipting patientsfor clinical procedures
  • Support the specialists with general administration tasks such as seeking patient medical records
  • Managing daily task lists and email correspondence on a daily basis

In addition to the key duties and responsibilities, the candidate must be able to demonstrate:

  • At least 12 month’s prior experience working within the healthcare industry, any prior experience working within a clinical, specialist practice or hospital-based setting will be viewed favourably
  • A sound understanding of Medicare, Work Cover, DVA and health fund claiming
  • An exemplary telephone manner and a compassionate demeanour
  • A strong desire to provide a high level of service to the patients and specialists
  • Proactive with strong time management and organisational skills along with the ability to prioritise your workload
  • An ability to juggling multiple priorities within tight timeframeswhilst still demonstrating attention to detail
  • Competency in Microsoft 365, previous experience with MediTrust software or similar highly regarded
  • A positive ‘can do’ attitude with the ability to contribute to a high performing team

Remuneration:

Salary will be in the range of $ 35-38 per hour plus Super (pro-rata).Staff parkingwill be provided. Public transport and other amenities in Milton are located nearby.

On the job training will also be provided to ensure your ongoing success in a practice such as this one.
