Job description

Job Opportunity: Medical Scribe

This position is in-person, located in the greater Grand Rapids, MI region. You must be able to attend at least 2 shifts/week in this area for 1+ year from hire.

We are seeking qualified individuals to service Neurosurgeons and Spinal surgeons offices of Corewell Health in the greater Grand Rapids region of Michigan. Candidates must be able to work shifts during business hours (8am-5pm ET, Monday-Friday).

What It Is

The Scribe assists healthcare providers with documentation of patient care and performs clerical tasks. Scribes accompany a designated provider throughout their shift, using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to document patient interactions. Training is provided in-house, and upon successful completion, Scribes work independently with the providers they support. Learn more here.

What You’ll Do
  • Use the EMR to accurately document patient encounters from start to finish.
  • Ensure compliance with medical record standards, updating patient history and relevant medical information.
  • Prepare and complete patient charts for provider review and approval, following detailed data entry procedures.
  • Maintain and organize multiple patient charts simultaneously.
  • Adhere to client and company policies, including HIPAA and Joint Commission regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with administrative teams.
  • Perform administrative tasks to enhance provider productivity and workflow.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and travel to assigned locations as required.
Requirements
  • Pass the Scribe Proficiency Assessment or complete a free online training course provided by Helix Scribe Solutions to prepare for it.
  • High school diploma required; college students pursuing pre-health careers preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy is a plus.
  • Typing speed of 60+ WPM with 80% accuracy.
  • Ability to draft accurate and grammatically correct narrative accounts of events.
  • Professional communication skills with providers and healthcare professionals.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Availability to work 15-20 hours/week (part-time) or 32-40 hours/week (full-time) for at least 1 year.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Reliable transportation required.
Physical Demands

This role requires regular talking, hearing, and manual dexterity. Extended periods sitting and working on a computer are typical. Occasional standing, walking, lifting up to 30 pounds, and other physical activities are required. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and focus adjustment. Moderate noise levels are usual in the work environment.
