Job Overview:

The Medical Scribe supports clinicians in the Emergency and Hospitalist Medicine Departments by assisting with documentation and follow-up on diagnostics, consults, and orders. This role allows clinicians more time for direct patient interaction. It's an excellent opportunity for entry-level healthcare professionals to gain clinical experience working alongside MDs, NPs, and PAs.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • Completion of undergraduate-level science or clinical coursework, or work experience in a clinical setting, may be considered in lieu of coursework
  • Work, volunteer, or shadowing experience in healthcare, documented on resume (e.g., scribe, patient care technician, medical assistant, EMT)

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment
  • Typing speed of 50 words per minute with error adjustment
Scheduling Requirements:
  • Full-time roles with guaranteed 30 hours/week, typically 36 hours/week
  • Shifts rotate between days (6:00am-6:00pm) and nights (7:00pm-10:00pm)
  • Work 2 weekends per month (Saturday and Sunday), with all weekends off otherwise
  • Shifts are 7 days a week, rotating between day and night shifts
Essential Functions:
  • Transcribe clinician notes and dictations in patient rooms
  • Listen actively to patient care discussions and document relevant information into EMR
  • Document patient encounters and clinician notes accurately
  • Request missing information from clinicians to complete charts
  • Gather and input external patient information (lab tests, records)
  • Make phone calls to providers and pharmacies as needed
  • Inform clinicians of diagnostic results and troubleshoot delays
