Medical Screener - Reception Technician / Customer Service (South Lansing Center)

Job Description Summary: Responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting registration procedures to verify donor suitability for plasma pheresis.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Assist qualified donors in completing the screening process, including health history assessment, medical questions, and health screening procedures (blood pressure, pulse, weight, temperature, finger stick for hematocrit and protein levels).
  2. Educate new donors about the donation process, screening tests, appointment system, fees, policies, nutrition, and address donor questions.
  3. Register applicants and transfer donors as trained.
  4. Answer phone calls and direct inquiries appropriately.
  5. Monitor donors during and after pheresis for reactions and notify staff if needed.
  6. Report donor flow issues to supervisors.
  7. Accurately record donor data in the electronic system.
  8. Understand policies related to hyper immune programs if applicable.
  9. Maintain a clean, safe, and stocked work environment following HSE and OSHA policies.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  11. Cross-train in other areas as needed.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 months experience in clerical or customer service roles, preferably in a medical or health environment, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Basic math skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to follow instructions and guidelines.
  • Good vision and communication skills.
  • Standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, manual dexterity.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Fast-paced environment with potential exposure to hazards and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Use of PPE required.
  • Overtime and extended hours may be necessary.
