The Position

Primary Purpose of Job (Job Summary)
● Lead Medical Science Manager (MSM) team to be field-based medical expertises for medical science in assigned disease area and develop and execute territory medical plan aligned with Disease Area medical strategy.
● Strengthen TAE management in the field by building up and continuously improving the capability and capacity of MSM DA team to ensure high quality scientific engagement.
● Provide mentorship to MSM for career development.
● Enhance the cross-functional collaboration between MSM team and cross-functional stakeholders.
● Contribute to global innovative initiative development and lead the implementation in China for assigned disease area.
● Actively lead cross-functional projects as medical expert.
● Ensure strict medical compliance in MSM daily activities.

Principle Roles & Responsibilities / Accountabilities
(Major functions of the position)

1. Lead MSM team to ensure full execution of territory medical plan
   ● Ensure the execution of MSM medical plan to be field-based medical expertises for medical science in responsible field for assigned disease area.
   - Ensure team’s full understanding and alignment with the medical strategy.
   - Ensure MSM works as primary contact for data generation activities: IIS and research request management, study support including site assessment, investigator engagement, etc.
   - Lead the team to design and deliver high quality scientific communication activities.
   - Oversee the implementation of the scientific projects to meet the data gap at the regional level.
   ● Regularly review and modify MSM territory medical plan during implementation to ensure full support to key medical initiatives.
   ● Shape development MSM team portfolio strategy plan alignment (e.g. with Life Cycle- and other key strategic plans) and delivery of all medical plans in the assigned disease area.
   ● Integrate feedback and suggestions from external customers and internal stakeholders for constant improvement.
   ● Budget and timeline control on MSM activities by active tracking and recording.
2. Contribute to cross-functional TAE management strategy and engagement plan to align with assigned disease area strategy.
   ● Lead MSM team to review and update TAE list in given DA via thorough TAE identification, profiling, and mapping process.
   ● Define TAE management strategy and engagement plan for MSM team by consulting MM and business counterparts to support medical and brand strategy.
3. Building up the capability and capacity of MSM team to ensure high quality scientific engagement.
   ● Recruitment for a high standard MSM team.
   ● Design and conduct constant training to MSM on both knowledge update and soft skill improvement.
   ● Provide ongoing assessment of assigned MSM team to ensure competencies and effectiveness towards team and individual goals.
   ● Regular co-visits of TAEs with team members to ensure quality of TAE engagement.
   ● Actively contribute to global innovative initiatives development in innovative customer engagement channel or team competency development and lead the exploration and implementation in China affiliate.
4. Team/People management
   ● Inspire and motivate positive teamwork spirit by active, open and constructive communications.
   ● Coach and support individual subordinate MSM for desired performance and career development.
   ● Oversee the development and implementation of training plans for the assigned MSM team.
   ● Manage the MSM team specific budget, including review and approval of expense reports.
   ● Support the Disease Area Head in the performance management, evaluation process, and organizational talent review process for MSM team, as well as cross DA team management by initiating and leading relevant projects.
   ● Lead and manage the internal/external change to the impact on performance cross DA.
5. Cross-functional collaboration enhancement
   ● Demonstrate strong leadership in cross-functional collaboration with internal/external stakeholders in complex and ambiguous situations.
   ● Ensure high quality medical and scientific support provided to the commercial activities, including medical input into the marketing strategy and sales training.
6. Compliance adherence
   ● Ensure all medical initiatives implemented strictly adhere to Roche SOPs/codes and local regulations.
   ● Champion the implementation of medical compliance with high ethics and integrity.
   ● Direct the adoption of appropriate policies and standards for all MSM activities.

Qualification and Experience

Education/Qualifications
● Major in Clinical medicine, Pharma, or Science.
● Master Degree or above (preferred).
● >5 years working experience in medical affairs or relevant functions in pharmaceutical company.
Leadership Competencies
● Experienced strategic thinking and planning skills.
● Demonstrated strong ability in cross-functional leadership.
● Proven experiences in people and budget management in relevant pharmaceutical organizations.
● >3 years of people management experiences is preferred.

● Expertise in the Therapeutic area of relevance with an established TAE network.
● Demonstrated strong work ethic, and proven track record of delivering high quality within timelines.
