The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role is a field-based, customer-facing, non-promotional medical and scientific position. The MSL’s key objective is to impact clinical practice within the assigned territory to improve patient outcomes. The MSL must demonstrate deep therapeutic expertise, understand territory and market influences, engage scientifically with Healthcare Providers (HCPs) and medical experts, manage and develop their territory, and execute activities aligned with the medical strategic and tactical plan—while adhering to the Novartis Code of Conduct, Ethics/Compliance policies, and Working Practice documents. The MSL will inform and shape medical strategy by collecting impactful insights and understanding their strategic implications.
This territory covers No. CA and No. NV. The preferred location for the candidate is to reside in San Francisco, CA, within 50 miles of the territory border. Relocation is not available.
Role Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The pay range at start is estimated between $166,400 - $249,600 for Managers and $183,200 - $274,800 for ADs. Final compensation depends on location, experience, and other factors. Benefits include bonuses, stock units, medical and financial benefits, and paid time off.
About the Role: Requires a graduate degree in science or healthcare; doctoral degrees preferred. Experience requirements vary by level, with a minimum of 3 years in a relevant medical field for Managers and 3-7 years for ADs. Candidates must reside within the designated territory or within 50 miles of its border. Travel of about 60-70% is expected.
