Job summary

Position Overview
About the Job

The Communications Generalist serves as a primary content creator and writer for the Medical School. This position is responsible for producing clear, engaging, and audience-focused content that supports research visibility, alumni engagement, internal communications, and institutional storytelling. The Communications Generalist develops content for websites, newsletters, print publications, digital communications, and strategic initiatives. The position collaborates closely with media relations, digital communications, alumni relations and other colleagues to ensure content supports the school’s strategic priorities.

Success in this role requires exceptional writing and editing skills, strong interviewing abilities, adaptability across multiple communication channels, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. The successful candidate will be able to translate complex medical, scientific, and academic information into clear and engaging content for a variety of audiences.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
75%: Create Multi-Channel Content and Marketing Communications
  • Identify unique and compelling stories that highlight the Medical School’s mission, vision, people, programs, and impact.
  • Develop and execute content plans that support Medical School priorities and effectively reach key audiences.
  • Coordinate and conduct interviews with learners, faculty, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders to create compelling stories and profiles.
  • Research, write, edit, and produce content for websites, newsletters, annual reports, and other materials as needed.
  • Manage production and distribution of newsletters, annual reports, and other materials as needed.
  • Format and upload content to the Medical School website.
  • Collaborate with communications and marketing colleagues to ensure content aligns with strategic goals and audience needs.
25%: Support Communications Operations
  • Support content planning and editorial calendar management processes.
  • Provide continuity and backup support for internal communications and editorial functions as needed.
  • Contribute to workflow coordination and project management activities within the team.
  • Coordinate broader Medical School communications team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree plus at least two years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six years
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels to facilitate positive working relationships
  • Demonstrated project management skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Drupal, Canva, video editing software

Pay And Benefits

Pay Range: $31.25-$36.06 per hour ($65,000-$75,000 annually); depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment

Work Location: Hybrid
