Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1–2 years of experience in a medical office, referral coordination, prior authorizations, or related setting.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, medications, and common codes (ICD-10, CPT).
• Experience verifying insurance benefits, eligibility, and PCP assignment.
• Proficiency with electronic health record systems; Athena experience preferred.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
• Ability to meet productivity standards and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication with patients, coworkers, managers and providers.
• Referral & Authorization coordination: track/manage referrals and authorizations.
• Technical proficiency with EHRs, fax, insurance portals, and general computer applications.
• Problem-solving and sound judgment for patient care coordination.

Responsibilities

• Receive and coordinate all referrals and prior authorization requests.
• Verify benefits and eligibility for OHP, DCIPA, Atrio, and PCP assignment.
• Create patient cases, communications and appointments in Athena and on paper.
• Communicate with outside providers, facilities, and insurers via phone, fax, and computer.
• Maintain knowledge of medications, codes, and medical necessity requirements.
• Promote teamwork and maintain a professional, confidential environment.
• Support manager with additional duties as assigned.
