This position provides clinical and administrative leadership for all medical services at the New York University Student Health Center (SHC). The Medical Director acts as the lead physician, overseeing accreditation, credentialing, and licensing. They manage staff across departments such as Primary Care, Urgent Care, Medical Specialties, GYN Health, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Optometry, and Administrative Support. Success in this role depends on developing effective policies, implementing evidence-based practices, and overseeing risk management and quality improvement initiatives. The Medical Director reports to the Vice President of Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, and participates in the SHC Executive Team and Governing Body.
Qualifications
Required Education: Medical Doctor (M.D.) or DO from an AAMC-accredited medical school. Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Board of Family Medicine. Must hold or be eligible to obtain:
Required Experience: At least 10 years of progressively responsible management experience in a multi-specialty ambulatory healthcare organization.
Preferred Experience: Leadership experience in a large, complex college or university health center, clinical experience with adolescent and young adult populations typical at NYU, and exposure to urgent care, preventive medicine, global health, and public health are highly desirable.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to engage effectively with diverse individuals and groups; understanding of ambulatory care goals and their role in prevention and treatment.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Advanced Life Support Certification and specialized clinical certifications are advantageous. Broad knowledge of public health and emergency response, especially in communicable disease control and prevention.
Additional Information
The annual base salary range for this position is USD $300,000 to USD $350,000, in accordance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act. Salary offers consider the scope of responsibilities, candidate’s experience, education, skills, internal equity, and market factors. This range covers base pay only, excluding bonuses or additional compensation.
