Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintains current and accurate medical records in accordance with standards and regulations.
  • Advises Administrator on federal and state laws concerning medical records.
  • Reviews department policies at least annually and participates in updates.
  • Ensures confidential handling of patient information and proper chart filing.
  • Maintains electronic medical records entries and EMR accuracy, and manages efax distribution.

Sustained members of our team demonstrate accountable behavior and share our values of customer service, innovation, integrity, inclusion, financial stewardship, leadership and care.The Medical Records Coordinator ensures that a complete medical records program is maintained in accordance with company standards, federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.Essential Activities and TasksQuality and Compliance Management - 90%Maintains current and accurate records through use of computers and/or other documentation in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulationsAdvises Administrator on federal and state laws concerning medical records.Reviews department policies and procedures, at least annually, and participate in making recommended changesEnsures that incomplete records/charts are returned to appropriate personnel.Assists in developing procedures to ensure paper records are properly assembled, coded, signed, indexed, etc., before filing.Ensures established policies and procedures for the medical records section are followed by all personnel.Ensures that work area(s) and equipment are maintained in a clean, sanitary, and safe manner.Maintains the confidentiality/rights of all patients and their care information.Ensures that electronic medical record has been entered correctly.Maintains face-to-face encounters and physician orders using the electronic medical record system.Assists in the management of the efax system by distributing incoming faxes.Operations Management & Administration - 10%Reviews all records.Collects, assembles, checks and files patient charts as required.Attends all-employee and departmental meetings and in-service training as scheduled or as directed.Efficiently operates the electronic medical records (EMR) system.All other duties as assigned.QualificationsEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent required.Graduate of an approved course for medical records technology.ExperienceOne year experience in medical records in a long-term care or healthcare facility preferred.Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) preferred.Other RequirementsMust be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.Working Conditions and Special RequirementsSitting - Up to 4 hours/dayStanding - Up to 8 hours/dayWalking - Up to 6 hours/dayLifting, transferring, pushing or pulling equipment/supplies - Up to 25 poundsRisk Category for Exposure to Bloodborne Diseases - III
