Job summary

DaMar Staffing is seeking a Health Information Management coder to assign ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes for discharged patients. The role forwards reports as required and supports the HIM director with coding duties and data integrity.

The position requires High School or equivalent education; RHIT is preferred and Coding Certification is required. The coder will collaborate with hospital departments and participate in ongoing education and training.

Qualifications

• Experience: Previous directly related training and experience preferred.
• Education: High School or equivalent
• Req. Cert./ Certification as RHIT preferred but not required (must be attending classes to obtain in future though). Coding Certification required.

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient's charts and assigns ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT codes for OP charts.
• Determines the sequence of diagnoses according to discharge data.
• Incorporate LCDs and NCDs for medically necessary services.
• Use NCCI edits and MUEs for correct coding.
• Inputs abstract data and codes into computer.
• Maintains electronic health record.
• Communicates with other departments on reports and charges.

• Incorporate use of LCDs and NCDs for medically necessary services.
• Able to use NCCI edits and MUEs for correct coding.
• Inputs abstract data and codes into computer.
• Assists in maintaining electronic health record.
• Good communication skills with fellow departments on reports/charges needed on an encounter.
• Verify scanned image quality as coding charts for accuracy on appropriate FIN, etc.
• Completes release of information requests as necessary.
• Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
• Back-up for birth certificate completion.
• Attends meetings and training as required
• Any other duties as requested by Department Director
