Job description

Overview

A nonexempt Medical Assistant position in ambulatory settings, under the supervision of physicians, providers and/or registered nurses. Clinical direction, oversight and competency review are provided by medical providers and the ambulatory professional development team in coordination with office management.

Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and guests using AIDET and provide an excellent service experience.
  • Provide patient support and keep patients informed of delays; take appropriate action including offering alternatives.
  • Perform administrative duties in various ambulatory settings, including rooming, documentation (vitals, pain, reason for visit, review of medications, social, surgical, family and medical history), and EMR in-baskets, MyChart messaging, and documentation in the medical record.
  • Obtain reports, results, and medical records; complete insurance and/or disability forms, precertification and/or authorizations, point-of-care testing, transcribing orders or order entry (protocol).
  • Assist with appointment scheduling, including follow-up appointments across the healthcare continuum (physician offices, imaging, lab) and during patient outreach.
  • Conduct patient outreach and call backs for messages received in MyChart and confirmation calls; administer vaccines when appropriate and document accordingly.
  • Collect specimens and handle them per established protocols, including proper labeling and safety handling; assist clinicians with monitoring and reporting lab results; file reports and radiology results in the EMR and attach results to orders.
  • Obtain prior authorization for medications, procedures, and testing as needed.
  • Maintain communication with multidisciplinary team members and patients while upholding the organization’s Mission, Vision and Values and adhering to ethical conduct.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory standards and apply them in daily operations.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and multitask in a fast-paced environment; may be asked to work at other ambulatory offices based on volume.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager.
Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum one year of recent experience in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented externship in a medical office.
  • Clinical skills: Electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary collection, and injections.
  • Technology: Epic experience is preferred.
  • Skills: Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication, teamwork and customer service.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • License/Certification: Graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting program accredited by NJAC (13:35-6.4) with current certification from a recognized certifying board approved by the NJ Board of Medical Examiners; current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
