Job Description: The Physics V role reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adhering to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.

The Physics V is responsible for all administrative aspects related to managing the physics section of Radiosurgery / Radiation Oncology / Prentice Radiation Oncology departments. This includes ensuring staff and infrastructure support the clinical needs of the department. Primary responsibilities include supervision of physics staff, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and administrative duties.

Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain primary responsibility for all physics operations, including workflow, staff assignments, and responsibilities.
  2. Identify and resolve daily operational issues related to physics aspects of patient care.
  3. Interact with all department sections, including physicians, nursing, and therapists, to ensure smooth patient treatment delivery.
  4. Provide daily direction and supervision to physics staff, including Radiation Physicists, Dosimetrists, LAN Administrator, and Instrument Designer.
  5. Participate in ongoing feedback, annual performance reviews, and staff development.
  6. Assist the Manager with administrative responsibilities such as budget development, inventory monitoring, and supply ordering.
  7. Ensure quality assurance and monitoring plans meet patient care and safety standards.
  8. Maintain knowledge of current industry standards from professional organizations.
  9. Participate in Radiation Safety programs and committees, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  10. Develop and maintain procedures for new equipment acceptance and application.
  11. Contribute to education and research programs of the hospital and department.
  12. Oversee orientation and ongoing assessment of physics staff.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent in Physics or Engineering.
  • Faculty appointment with Northwestern University Medical School.
  • Registered with Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety as an approved Therapeutic Radiological Physicist.
  • Board Certified in Therapeutic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology or American College of Medical Physics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of supervisory experience.
  • Proven skills in independent clinical research with peer-reviewed publications.
  • Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology or American College of Medical Physics.
