SUMMARY

The position supports the delivery of safe and effective radiation therapy by performing technical and clinical tasks under the supervision of a licensed medical physicist and a certified dosimetrist. Responsibilities include assisting with quality assurance testing of treatment delivery and imaging systems, collecting data for patient-specific QA, and supporting equipment commissioning and validation activities. The role also contributes to dosimetry workflows by preparing imaging data, assisting with treatment planning setup, and supporting plan verification and documentation.


Additional duties include maintaining QA equipment, organizing records, and helping implement new technologies and protocols. This position ensures regulatory compliance, improves clinical workflow efficiency, and allows credentialed staff to focus on complex treatment planning and oversight activities.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly quality assurance checks on treatment delivery and imaging systems under the supervision of a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP), in accordance with established protocols.

  • Conduct routine performance testing on simulation and treatment units as specified by the QMP; immediately report any out-of-tolerance results.

  • Obtain patient-specific QA data, including phantom measurements, per QMP direction; submit data for physicist review and interpretation.

  • Assist in conducting special in-vivo dosimetry using OSLDs or diodes under QMP supervision.

  • Support annual beam scanning in water phantoms and other specialized QA measurements under direct QMP supervision.

  • Maintain proper inventory, calibration status, and storage of QA instruments and testing equipment.


Dosimetry Assistance & Treatment Planning Support


  • Prepare and import image datasets, structure sets, and other planning data into the treatment planning system.

  • Assist with basic contouring tasks, plan setup, and documentation under the supervision of a dosimetrist or physicist.

  • Support the generation and documentation of treatment plans as directed.


Commissioning & Technology Implementation


  • Assist in collecting and organizing reference and commissioning data for new equipment and software under the direction of a QMP.

  • Support validation of treatment planning algorithms and equipment functionality by following QMP-designed protocols.


Process Improvement & Documentation


  • Assist with updating and maintaining quality control protocols, procedure documents, and testing records.

  • Enter and maintain accurate documentation within the radiation oncology EMR and physics QA systems.

  • Contribute to workflow optimization efforts by supporting development of training materials and process improvements as delegated.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelors, Master’s or Doctoral degree in a related field


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Prior experience in a clinical radiation oncology or medical physics setting, including:
    o Hands-on familiarity with treatment planning systems (e.g., Eclipse) and oncology information systems (e.g., ARIA, Mosaiq)
    o Experience assisting with dosimetric calculations, contouring, and treatment plan verification under the supervision of licensed staff

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative clinical team in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong organizational, communication, and analytical problem-solving skills


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
