Job summary

Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in medical physics; clinical medical physics training.
  • Board certification by ABR preferred or eligible.
  • AMP documentation for HDR after loader or NRC 313A process.
  • Meets continuing education standards for registry eligibility.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience with Varian TrueBeam, Halcyon, ARIA R&V, Eclipse, Elekta Oncentra planning preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains operating knowledge of the planning system and CT/MRI/PET import.
  • Ensures accurate beam energies, angles, MLC and wedges planning.
  • Conducts QA tests and calibrations to meet safety standards.
  • Collaborates with radiation oncologists on treatment plans.
  • Provides education on radiation safety and staff training.
  • Performs dosimetry and chart checks; supports ARIA EMR usage.
  • Travels between clinics as needed and maintains regulatory compliance.

Job description

The medical physicist conducts all aspects of radiation therapy physics, including clinical medical physics support, equipment calibration and commissioning, maintenance of appropriate quality assurance programs for equipment and treatment delivery, compliance with radiation safety, licensing issues and other pertinent regulatory requirements.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Maintains operating knowledge of the planning system, ARIA/Eclipse.
  • Demonstrates importing correct CT images, properly merging CT/MRI/PET, and identifying anatomical structures.
  • Maintains knowledge of tissue constraints.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of planning, including:
  • Beam energies and angles
  • MLC and wedges
  • Maintains knowledge of document procedures, planning approval, and set-up notes.
  • Proficient in-patient chart checks, hand calculations, and reviewing charts for planning information.
  • Advises therapists on patient positioning and setup for planning.
  • Proficient in all aspects of ARIA electronic medical record/patient management.
  • Maintains an atmosphere of care and support for patients, visitors, medical staff, and co-workers.
  • Evaluates and develops radiation instruments and procedures.
  • Optimizes the physical and technical aspects of radiation treatments.
  • Ensures accurate measurement and delivery of radiation doses.
  • Implements and monitors quality control and safety protocols.
  • Collaborates with radiation oncologists on patient treatment plans.
  • Ensures radiation protection for patients, staff, and the community.
  • Conducts research to enhance treatment methods and develop new technologies.
  • Provides education and training on radiation safety and medical physics.
  • Stays updated on advancements in medical physics and radiation therapy.
  • Conducts equipment calibrations and maintenance.
  • Performs quality assurance tests on radiology equipment.
  • Works assigned shifts.
  • Performs duties as assigned by the chief physicist and radiation oncologist.
  • Travels between clinics if necessary.
  • Maintains compliance with Department of Health radiation regulations.
Qualifications and Educational Requirement
  • MS or Ph.D. in medical physics and training in clinical medical physics.
  • Board certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Radiology preferred.
  • Ability to maintain documented proof of authorized medical physicist (AMP) for after loader, or complete form NRC 313A AMP for HDR after loader.
  • Meets all continuing education standards as they apply to registry eligibility.
  • Experience in Microsoft office 365
  • Experience preferred in Varian Truebeam, Halcyon, ARIA R&V, Eclipse and Elekta Oncentra planning preferred.
Licensure/Certification
  • Valid driver’s license
