Job description

The Pathology Department is seeking a Medical Photographer who under the general direction of supervisor or Faculty, prepares photographs and digital prints for publications for scientific meetings and presentations. All aspects of medical photography from photography / video in autopsy, operating room, public relations, location work and group shots will be covered, along with the documentation of various medical procedures. Videotape and edit with the latest video software. Must be able to organize work, set priorities and creatively solve problems.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Completes client requests for images including but not limited to, responsible for meeting directly with clients in regard to photo shoots, cost estimates, scheduling, billing and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Providing high quality images for publication and presentation, photographing in the studio, gross specimens and general operating room.
  • Printing and scanning for end use in publications representing the University.
  • Videotapes program material for production using video camera equipment; makes technical decisions regarding such elements as appropriate lighting, shooting angle and placement and type of microphone; receives explicit instructions regarding assignment.
  • Edits and assembles final visual / audio program material; ensures consistency and relevancy to production; monitors technical quality of end product.
  • Keeping abreast of new photographic technology. Assisting customer with technology (imaging, file format, etc.). Instruction in the proper use of computer or file / presentation set up. Assist in backing up files. Inventory of lab supplies and equipment maintenance on a routine basis is essential.
  • Estimating time and cost, gathering quotes and working with outside vendors as needed. Works on monitoring the Pathology server doing maintenance and drive replacement when needed as well as all troubleshooting of computer systems before Path Lan support is called.
  • Dealing with monthly billing, bank deposits, credit card, check and cash. Entering invoices for photographic & video services at month end. Also ordering some supplies with the SAP system.

  • Fluent with Mac & PC platforms

Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities / Competencies

  • Work requires precision and attention to detail.
  • Computer skills to include advanced working knowledge of dual platform, Macintosh & PC, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Creative Suite, video editing software, Microsoft Office.
  • Individual should have strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with health care professionals and other hospital / university personnel. Must have the ability to read and interpret direction, both oral and written, organize and prioritize work and follow through on assignments.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) up to 50% of the time. Occasionally required to traverse throughout the work area including reaching over and under printing machines and equipment.
  • Prolonged vision requirements including viewing computer screen, paper reports / documents, charts and artwork. Visual acuity is required to distinguish fine gradation of color or structure.
  • While this position will work in an office setting there may be times they will enter a laboratory environment - Exposure to toxins and infectious agents exist, but potential for personal injury or harm is minimized if established safety and health precautions are followed. Working in laboratory where there may be discomforts due to odors, noise, temperature fluctuations, and working around lab equipment.
  • May transport equipment and supplies usually less than 40 pounds from one area to another. May be required to lift and / or move up to 50 pounds with proper training, or precautions / lifting aides (example : paper boxes or rolls). In some areas workspace is confined.
  • Staff may be required to complete annual competency review, and must ensure compliance with Hospital Policy, Laboratory Policy & Procedure, Health, Safety & Environment regulations, and all applicable privacy & confidentiality laws / practices.
  • Early morning or evening photoshoots, and occasional weekend work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years of related job experience with portfolio.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA / BFA in Photography, Design, or in related field preferred.

Starting Salary Range : $18.20 - $33.90 HRLY ($50,000 targeted; Commensurate w / exp.)
