Job summary

Inova Health Center – Woodbridge is seeking a Medical Oncology/Infusion Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant to join a collaborative oncology team in Woodbridge, VA. The role focuses on triage, physical exams, and care coordination across the cancer care continuum, from diagnosis to follow-up.

As part of an oncology APP team, you will manage infusion patients, document thoroughly in the EMR, and educate patients and families about treatment plans.

Qualifications

• Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post-master’s certificate for NP.
• For Physician Assistants: graduate of an accredited PA program and NCCPA certification.
• BLS certification required at start.
• Licensed NP or PA with state licensure and, for NPs, RN license and scoped practice agreements as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Conducts in-depth interviews with patients, constructs medical histories and performs exams.
• Ensures patient information, visit history, labs, and consults are documented in the EMR.
• Evaluates and manages patients with urgent concerns and determines disposition.
• Evaluates infusion patients during treatment and manages infusion reactions and related side effects.
• Orders diagnostic studies and interprets results; counsels patients and families on care plans.
• Educates and coaches fellow staff including RNs and clinical technicians.

The Oncology Advanced Practice Provider – Woodbridge under general supervision and in accordance with APP standardized procedures/ protocol:

Triage and management of the oncology and hematology patient as part of a collaborative team, as well as counseling for patients and families throughout the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up process. Physical examination and assessment. Working in collaboration with the patient’s referring provider as well as other members of the patient’s care team to ensure optimal patient experience and outcomes.

Infusion Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant (NP/PA) job responsibilities:

• Conducts in-depth interviews with patients, constructs comprehensive medical histories, performs physical examinations, and explores patient's interpretation of health needs as it relates to their diagnoses.

Ensure patient information, visit history, refer outs, lab follow-up, phone calls, and consults are carefully and completely documented in the electronic medical record.

• Evaluates and manages patients with urgent complaints determines appropriate patient disposition including escalating to hospital- based care when necessary.

Evaluates infusion patients as they receive treatments in to include management of infusion related reactions and acute treatment-related side effects

• Directly performs or orders appropriate diagnostic studies and interprets finished results.
• Instructs and counsels patients and families regarding preventive care, medical problems, psychological problems, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
• Writes orders to increase, decrease or change medications.
• Identifies and records pertinent progress of patients, updating and summarizing charts, changing orders when appropriate and notifying the responsible provider of changes in the patient's condition.
• Educates/coaches fellow staff members including RNs and clinical technicians

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education:Master’s in advanced clinical Practice or graduate of a post master's certificate program for nurse practitioners, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing. For physician Assistants, graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
• Certification:Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start
• Licensure:Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner; If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License(depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances)
• Payer Credentialing:Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors and Ability to enrolled as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor
• Medical Staff Credentialing: Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services
