Summary

The Medical Office Assistant will be responsible for performing a variety of clinical, clerical and administrative functions. Clinical duties include, but are not limited to, triaging patients, collecting medical information, recording vital signs, assisting providers during procedures, performing routine point of care testing, obtaining insurance authorizations for procedures and EKG’s. Additional responsibilities will include: Coordinating Dr. Chaffin’s surgery schedule, completing all OR paperwork, faxing paperwork to surgery, scanning into eCW/EPIC, coordinating all surgical authorizations, taking all patient calls for questions/medical information, coordinating with different surgical specialties for Dr. Chaffin’s practice, being the main contact point of all of Dr. Chaffin’s clinics (MedCentris Metairie Wound Institute, TUMG NS Clinic, and LCMC Metairie Plastic Surgery Clinic), scheduling patient appointments, scheduling laboratory and imaging tests, pre-certifying services and procedures, maintaining the stock room and the physical environment of the exam and procedure rooms.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • In depth knowledge of good clinical practices as set forth by federal regulations.
  • Solid analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and patient-centered atmosphere.
  • Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.

Required Education And/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of clerical/administrative medical office experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records.
