DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing insurance coverage to determine whether the involvement of each healthcare provider falls within the coverage provided by the Mcare Fund and other insurance mechanisms. Work involves analyzing complex information, directing attorneys and legal expert reviews, and determining injury values through in-depth evaluations. You will have the opportunity to represent the agency at mediation and court proceedings as well as negotiate settlements with claimants and attorneys involving millions of dollars worth of damages. Additional functions include:

• Conducting thorough investigations
• Reviewing and approving legal bills
• Completing required releases and settlement paperwork

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
• Travel may be required.
• Telework:You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You will be required to report in-office one day per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
• Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as a Medical Malpractice Claims Examiner 1(Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);or
• Four years of experience in examining or negotiating the settlement of medical malpractice claims and a bachelor’s degree;or
• One year of experience in examining or negotiating the settlement of medical malpractice claims and an advanced degree in law (juris doctorate).
