We are currently seeking a service-minded, mission-driven individual for the position of:

Medical Legal Partnerships Staff Attorney

Overview:

Community Legal Services (CLS) seeks a Staff Attorney for a new partnership in Orange County, Florida, focusing on removing civil legal barriers related to housing, health, and well-being for low-income individuals. Reporting to the (Senior) Managing Attorney, Medical-Legal Partnership or designee, this role involves providing legal services in accordance with our mission, ABA standards, and Florida Rules of Professional Conduct.

Responsibilities:

1. Determine client eligibility for legal services.
2. Represent clients in civil matters affecting health, including public benefits, landlord/tenant disputes, disability issues, family law, debt collection, and educational access.
3. Provide comprehensive legal services: legal problem identification, investigation, advice, negotiation, court representation, and documentation.
4. Research relevant laws and prepare legal writings and documents.
5. Develop legal educational programs addressing community needs.
6. Build partnerships with healthcare professionals and community organizations.
7. Engage community partners through training, collaboration, and student involvement.
8. Assist with grant reporting and compliance.
9. Foster relationships with bar associations, legislators, and community groups for resource development and pro bono involvement.
10. Support the CLS Helpline with client intakes and advice.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

2. Background and Experience:

• Member in good standing of The Florida Bar.
• Bondable and possess a valid Florida driver’s license with proof of insurance.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
• 2-4 years civil litigation or experience with low-income/vulnerable clients.
• Experience in public benefits, social security, health, or community programs preferred.
• Strong advocacy, legal writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Flexible, enthusiastic about outreach, and capable of managing a full caseload.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, across various locations in the CLS 12-county service area.

3. Physical Requirements:

1. Prolonged sitting and working at a computer.
2. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 plus a 10% bonus!
