Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our clinical diagnostic laboratory. The ideal candidate will have 1 to 3 years of experience in laboratory testing and possess Florida state licensure. This role involves processing specimens, performing laboratory testing, and reporting results while adhering to high-quality standards. The candidate will work under the laboratory director's supervision and execute only those high-complexity tests that align with their education, training, and technical expertise.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Specimen Handling & Testing
Perform laboratory tests in general chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation.
Process and analyze specimens per established protocols.
Ensure proper labeling and logging of specimens to maintain accuracy and compliance.
Quality Control & Compliance
Adhere to laboratory quality control policies and document all activities.
Perform and document quality control checks, calibrations, and maintenance of equipment.
Identify and resolve test system issues and ensure corrective actions are documented and implemented.
Result Interpretation & Reporting
Accurately record and report test results in accordance with laboratory policies.
Notify appropriate personnel regarding abnormal test findings.
Maintain compliance with reporting requirements, including public health notifications.
Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Conduct routine equipment maintenance and troubleshoot technical issues.
Ensure that all instruments are functioning correctly and efficiently.
Regulatory & Safety Compliance
Maintain records demonstrating compliance with CLIA and Florida state regulations.
Participate in internal and external audits to ensure ongoing compliance.
Follow safety procedures, including proper handling of hazardous materials.
Professional Development
Engage in continuing education and training to maintain licensure and certifications.
Stay updated on industry best practices and advancements in laboratory technology.
Other Duties as Assigned
Assist in laboratory improvement initiatives and workflow enhancements.
Qualifications:
Education: Associate Degree in Physical or Chemical Science or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience in a clinical diagnostic lab.
Licensure/Certification: Must hold a Florida State Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) license.
Certification: ASCP or equivalent registration.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), laboratory information systems, and statistical data interpretation.
Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic calculations and statistical analysis.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
Potential exposure to blood and body fluids (Category I work environment).
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Requires standing and walking for extended periods.
Ability to perform repetitive motions, including bending and kneeling.
