Job description

Position Summary:

The medical laboratory technician performs a variety of medical lab tests for diagnostic treatment and prevention of disease. The medical laboratory technician is responsible for collecting, processing and analyzing specimens such as blood, urine, and tissue. They work with the team to help provide patients with the highest standards of care.

This role is available to work anywhere from 32-40 hours a week.

Essential Functions of the Job: [Other duties may be assigned.]

Responsibilities:

  1. Perform laboratory diagnostic procedures.
  2. Obtain all samples and processes according to hospital partners requirements.
  3. Record appropriate data in EMR and communicate lab findings to appropriate clinic professionals.
  4. Record necessary lab control data.
  5. Knowledge of OSHA and CLIA 88 requirements and practices these techniques in the lab. This includes proficiency testing as needed.
  6. Communicate lab results to provider immediately and according to guidelines when out of range.
  7. Monitor correct tests are performed and results reported by partner hospitals in a timely manner. Provide follow up as needed, acting as the liaison to resolve any issues.
  8. Observe and record temperatures of appropriate lab equipment each morning.
  9. Ensure delivery of all samples to scheduled receiving hospital (St. Vincent, St. Mary's, or Bellin) at the end of each day.
  10. Protect patient confidentiality as directed by HIPAA regulations.
  11. Perform all duties within legal and ethical Medical Laboratory Technician scope of practice.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university or college.
  2. Experience: Experience as Medical Technologist.
  3. Language: Comprehend and use basic language either written or spoken to communicate information and ideals.

Required Credentials, Certification, Licensure (Examples):

  1. ASCP Certification or equivalent.

Have necessary qualification to be a CLIA Laboratory Director and technical consultant per CLIA requirements or have necessary qualifications to meet criteria for CLIA certification.
