Job summary

IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. seeks an experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist for our Westminster, CO lab. You will perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal and biopsy samples, using automated analyzers and microscopes to support veterinarians in diagnosing animal illnesses.

You’ll set up tests, read results per SOPs, and may specialize in a department. Teamwork, accuracy, and attention to detail are essential in a fast-paced environment with day-one benefits.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in MLS/CLS/MT or related field.
  • ASCP/ASCP-BOC/AMT/AAB or equivalent certification preferred; experience in reference/hospital/vet lab required.
  • Comprehensive training in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology/serology, urinalysis and cytology; cross-training in two or more departments is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Use automated analyzers, microscopes and diagnostic tools to test and diagnose animal illnesses.
  • Perform tests on blood, urine, fecal, or biopsy samples received daily.
  • Set up and run lab tests; read and release results per SOPs.
  • Specialize in an assigned department and explore reference laboratory options.

As an experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist at IDEXX, you perform laboratory testing that helps veterinarians diagnose and treat pets. In this role:
  • You will use automated analyzers, microscopes and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment.
  • You will perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal or pet biopsy samples that we receive in our lab by the thousands, every day.
  • You will set up and run lab tests, then read and release results according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).

What you need to succeed:
  • As a Medical Laboratory Technologist, you will have an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), Medical Technology (MT), Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), or a related biological, biomedical, or chemical science field.
  • Candidates who have an ASCP, ASCP-BOC, AMT, AAB, or equivalent professional certification are highly preferred. Prior experience in a reference laboratory, hospital laboratory, veterinary diagnostic laboratory, research laboratory, or high-volume clinical testing environment is also required.
  • Qualified applicants who will be considered for this position must have comprehensive academic training and hands-on clinical experience in: Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Immunology/Serology, Urinalysis and Cytology. Ideally, you will have a strong skillset in two or more of these departments (Cross-Trained Technologist).
  • Extensive skillset utilizing the Sysmex XN Series, Beckman Coulter, CellaVision, Coag Analyzers, Clinitek Advantus/Novus, automated liquid handling experience (Hamilton).
  • Instrument maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting independently is also a plus.
  • Knowledge and compliance of CLIA, CAP and/or Joint Commission standards knowledge, OSHA/biohazards safety protocols, documentation and chain-of-custody procedures and LIS proficiency.
  • Independent result interpretation utilizing critical thinking skills, delta checks and recognition of discrepancies between clinical presentation and lab results.

  • You concentrate on details and can work reliably, precisely and take pride in your attention to detail. You are aware that each specimen in our labs is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by contributing accurate diagnostics that support patient and animal health outcomes.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements that go with working in a lab - standing and sitting for extended periods of time, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability - close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • This is a laboratory, so there is potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.

  • Shift differential is available to those employees who work during 2nd or 3rd shift hours (additional $ 3 / hr)

Schedule:
  • We are offering three different schedules for a qualified candidate
  • First shift: Monday-Friday, 9:30am-6:30pm
  • First shift: Tuesday-Saturday, 7:00am-3:30pm
  • Third shift: Monday-Friday, Midnight-8:30am with rotating Saturdays
  • The shifts and hours may vary slightly depending on business needs.
  • Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.
