Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform moderate complexity laboratory testing according to established procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Ensure accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of all test results.
  • Follow all specimen handling, labeling, and processing protocols.
  • Perform, document, and review quality control, calibration, and instrument maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot analytical or instrument issues and initiate corrective actions as required.
  • Maintain accurate and complete testing records in accordance with CLIA and hospital policy.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and quality assurance programs.
  • Assist Laboratory Director in reviewing quality control data and regulatory documentation.
  • Advise staff in understanding test performance and clinical relevance.
  • Provide training and competency assessments for testing personnel.
  • Participate in evaluation and implementation of new test methods and equipment.
  • Assist with development and revision of laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Ensure testing is in compliance with CLIA, COLA, OSHA regulations.
  • Monitor and document corrective actions from quality reviews.
  • Communicate with leadership and medical staff regarding lab operations and results.

Job Description
Position Goals

This job description for the Medical Laboratory Technologist at Patients Emergency Room and Hospital provides criteria for the evaluation of performance, attitude, and discipline. The Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for performing and overseeing moderate complexity laboratory testing in accordance with CLIA regulations and established protocols.
This position ensures that accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory results are produced for patient diagnosis and treatment. A key component of this role is to assist the Laboratory Manager/ Laboratory Director in maintaining compliance with all regulatory and quality standards, supporting training and competency of personnel, and ensuring the overall integrity of the laboratory’s testing processes.
The Medical Laboratory Technologist at Patients Emergency Room and Hospital will strive to provide proficient, competent care while maintaining patient safety, dignity, and confidentiality.

Position Responsibilities

The Medical Laboratory Technologist at Patients Emergency Room and Hospital will be responsible for:

  1. Performing moderate complexity laboratory testing according to established procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  2. Ensuring accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of all test results.
  3. Following all specimen handling, labeling, and processing protocols.
  4. Performing, documenting, and reviewing quality control, calibration, and instrument maintenance.
  5. Troubleshooting analytical or instrument issues and initiating corrective actions as required.
  6. Maintaining accurate and complete testing records in accordance with CLIA and hospital policy.
  7. Participating in proficiency testing and ensuring compliance with quality assurance programs.
  8. Assisting the Laboratory Director in reviewing quality control data, performance specifications, and regulatory documentation.
  9. Advising and assisting staff in understanding test performance, interpretation, and clinical relevance.
  10. Providing and documenting training and competency assessments for testing personnel.
  11. Participating in the evaluation, validation, and implementation of new test methods and equipment.
  12. Assisting with development, review, and revision of laboratory policies and procedures on an annual basis or as needed.
  13. Ensuring all testing is performed in compliance with CLIA, COLA, OSHA, and hospital safety regulations.
  14. Monitoring and documenting corrective actions resulting from quality or proficiency review findings.
  15. Communicating effectively with the Leadership, nursing, and medical staff regarding laboratory operations and results.
  16. Maintaining professionalism and confidentiality at all times in accordance with hospital standards.
  17. Participating in laboratory inspections and acting as a liaison with regulatory agencies as needed.
  18. Performing additional duties as assigned by the Laboratory Leadership within scope of training and certification.
Position Requirements

The requirements for employment with Patients Emergency Room and Hospital are:

  • Current CPR certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CLIA/COLA standards, laboratory quality systems, and infection control procedures.
  • Maintains continuing education and professional development as required by CLIA and hospital policy.
  • Prior experience in laboratory quality assurance or compliance preferred.
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science.
  • Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience in a CLIA-certified moderate complexity in Chemistry laboratory.

OR

  • Associate’s degree in medical technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science.
  • Minimum 4 years of laboratory experience in a CLIA-certified moderate complexity in Chemistry laboratory.
Physical Demands
