Essentia Health in Duluth, MN seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician for Sendouts to join our team. Responsibilities include processing specimens, coordinating tests, reporting results, and supporting patients and clinicians.

The role requires an associate degree in MLT and ASCP (or equivalent) certification within one year. Day/evening rotations, weekends, and holidays are included in the schedule.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technician or meets CLIA guidelines for complexity of testing.
• Certification as MLT (ASCP) or equivalent within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Support specimen processing, testing coordination, result handling in the Send Out Department.
• Perform and report laboratory tests of all complexity levels per CLIA definitions.
• Test patients of all ages to aid in screening, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases.
• Apply problem-solving skills to laboratory procedures and testing issues.
• Participate in QA/QC monitoring.
• Perform instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Process and prepare specimens for testing and referral.
• Perform phlebotomy as needed.
• Provide customer service to patients, providers, and lab personnel.

Job Description:

Essentia Health is searching for a Medical Laboratory Technician for Sendouts to join our team at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN. Hours will be day shift with the exception of afternoon/evenings on weekends and holiday rotations.

Education Qualifications:

Graduate of an associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technician or meets Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines for the complexity of laboratory testing for alternative route.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support specimen processing, testing coordination, result handling, and other technically complex responsibilities within the Send Out Department.
• Perform and report laboratory tests of all complexity levels, as defined by CLIA.
• Perform testing on patients of all ages to assist with the routine screening, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and injuries.
• Apply complex problem-solving skills to laboratory procedures and testing issues.
• Participate in Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) monitoring.
• Perform instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Process and prepare specimens for testing and referral.
• Perform phlebotomy as needed.
• Provide customer service to patients, healthcare providers, and other laboratory personnel.

Licensure/Certification Qualifications:

Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent; within one year of hire
