Job Description

Performs routine tests in various areas such as hematology, biochemistry, etc., using standard techniques and equipment. The Medical Laboratory Technician may make qualitative determinations of substances like sugar in urine, perform blood cell counts, and prepare and mount specimens for microscopic examination.

Responsibilities

1. Maintain productivity levels with minimal error rates in sample preparation and assay analysis to support disease diagnosis, treatment, and health care quality improvement.
2. Utilize time efficiently, prioritize duties, and remain flexible to meet laboratory needs. Maintain inventory of supplies to ensure smooth operations and avoid duplication.
3. Adapt to changes or unusual circumstances proactively, promoting cooperation and minimizing disruptions.
4. Exhibit professionalism in manner, appearance, and performance, ensuring high standards in healthcare service delivery. Demonstrate humanistic attitude when interacting with patients of various age groups, respecting their physical and psychological needs.
5. Ensure quality in all work aspects, including specimen preparation, testing, and reporting, in compliance with policies and procedures. Perform quality control, maintenance, and record-keeping diligently.
6. Exercise ethical judgment and technical skill within hospital and laboratory policies and legal guidelines in decision-making and procedures.
7. Assist in the care and maintenance of laboratory equipment and environment.
8. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent, with specialized training.
• Completion of an MLT training program.
• Licensed in Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Technician (CLST), or holding a temporary or pending permit issued by LSBME.
