Job summary

Beloit Health System is seeking a Per Diem Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Laboratory team. The MLT will perform and evaluate complex tests across chemistry, microbiology, immunology, and immunochemistry to support diagnosis and treatment.

You will analyze body fluids with manual and automated instruments, report results accurately, troubleshoot equipment, and maintain quality control while accessing the EMR and communicating with physicians as needed.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent; eligible to take the ASCP registry exam.
  • ASCP registration within one year of hire.
  • Requires promptness in answering phone requests, alarms, and instrument issues.
  • Ability to work independently and calmly in emergencies; meet deadlines for stat and routine tests.

Responsibilities

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of body fluids using manual and automated instrumentation.
  • Accurately and completely report test results.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and adjust procedures as needed; use alternate methods when appropriate.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment; perform instrument checks, quality control, calibration, and maintenance.
  • Access and input data from EMR; communicate results to physicians as required.

Beloit Health System is looking to add a Per Diem Medical Laboratory Technician to our Team!



  • Shift: 1st, 2nd & 3rd shifts available

  • Schedule: Varied depending on shift chosen

  • Hours per week: Varied

  • Benefits Status:Not Eligible

  • Department: Laboratory


The MLT is responsible for the performance and evaluation of various complex chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic, immunologic, and immunochemical tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases by the physician.



  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of body fluids using manual and automated instrumentation.

  • Accurately and completely report results of tests and procedures.

  • Effectively recognize and resolve problems, troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and ineffective procedures, and use alternative methods when appropriate.

  • Effectively maintains laboratory equipment and performs and records instrument checks, quality control procedures, calibration, and other maintenance when required.

  • Meets established turnaround time for routine and STAT tests.

  • Able to access, input, and retrieve information from the EMR.

  • Uses sound judgement and generally accepted medical technology principles when assessing the reliability of results generated.

  • Communicates with physicians when callback values problems exist.

  • Assists with specimen processing, processing orders and drawing outpatients.

  • Performs glucometer run.

  • Adheres to lab cleaning schedule and keeps appropriate log of these activities.

  • Processes reference laboratory requests and reports.

  • Receives and registers via EMR lab requests and specimens from outside sources and takes to proper Laboratory section.


JOB REQUIREMENTS


  • Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technician or an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience making the employee eligible to take the registry exam.

  • Registration by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists within one year of hire.

  • Requires promptness in answering phone requests, instrument, and out-patient alarms.

  • Requires promptness and efficiency in reporting results of laboratory findings via computer and paper or "call back" results if indicated.

  • Requires the ability to work independently and to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations, and to meet deadlines required by "stats" and routines.

  • Maintain ethical conduct and keep confidential personal and medical information about patients..

  • Must plan, prioritize, and respond to information in an appropriate time frame.

  • Reporting Relationship: Managers and Department Director.

  • Requires promptness and efficiency in reporting results of laboratory findings via computer and paper or "call back" results if indicated.
