The IU Health laboratories offer some of the most comprehensive services in Indiana, operating 24/7 and performing over 19 million tests annually. They serve not only IU Health hospitals but also hospitals and physicians nationwide.

The Medical Laboratory Technician at IUH assists with laboratory testing on patient specimens. Under supervision, they provide diagnostic and treatment information, maintain performance records, and use independent judgment to produce valid test results, adhering to standard operating procedures. They also contribute to developing and modifying procedures and undertake additional responsibilities as directed by management or the laboratory director.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related science (Certification not required); or an Associate Degree from an approved Medical Laboratory Technician Program, or a Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) certification from an official military medical laboratory course of at least 50 weeks.
  • Associate degree holders must obtain certification (NCA, AMT, ASCP, HEW, CLA) within 12 months of employment; failure to do so may result in demotion or termination based on business needs.
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques, procedures, testing equipment, and routine maintenance.
  • Ability to maintain quality control records and operate computers effectively.
  • Understanding of laboratory safety regulations and protocols.
