Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a laboratory professional to perform routine and highly complex analyses on clinical specimens under supervision. You will operate, calibrate, and maintain instruments, verify quality control, and participate in ongoing technology updates to ensure accurate results.

This is a full-time position focused on timely, quality patient information with adherence to HIPAA, privacy policies, and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• This role requires basic to advanced laboratory procedures and adherence to SOPs.
• Candidates should be able to verify assay accuracy and maintain instrument calibration.
• Commitment to ongoing education and staying current with lab technologies.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality clinical information.
• Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation; addresses QC issues.
• Participates in programs to stay updated with current and changing technologies.
• May collect and process patient specimens within policy and time frames.
• Maintains a clean work area and adequate supplies for labs.
• Potentially mentors MT/MLT, phlebotomy and lab processor students and new staff.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Performs routine and highly complex laboratory analyses on clinical specimens in various sections of the laboratory under supervision.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs a variety of routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality clinical information. Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity and linearity for test methods. (50%)
• Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation. Recognizes problems with quality control and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information. (30%)
• Participates in programs to keep updated with current and changing technologies. (5%)
• May collect and process patient specimens in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures and within the expected time frames. (5%)
• Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations. (5%)
• May mentor MT/MLT, phlebotomy, and lab processor students and new employees in laboratory testing following AHN policies and procedures. (5%)
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

• Associates degree in ASCP eligible program or equivalent. Meet ongoing education requirements for certification.

Preferred

• Clinical laboratory experience.
• Medical Laboratory Technician or equivalent
