The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the Student Health Center Lab while serving as the lab content expert/technical consultant to the rest of the staff. Duties include performing waived and moderately complex test procedures in the areas of serology, microbiology, microscopy and hematology as well as interpreting results, drawing blood, preparing specimens that are being sent to the reference lab, managing CAP survey process, and performing quality controls as needed. In addition, this position will be responsible for resolving or attempting to resolve procedural and/or instrumentation problems, communicating information for clinical use, supporting the medical staff, training staff on lab procedures, and preparing and maintaining the lab for CLIA inspection along with Lab Director.
Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, chemistry, or a biological science; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Position requires compliance with current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments ( CLIA ) regulations.
Current CPR certification required within 3 months of hire.
