Job summary

Unified Women's Healthcare in Morrisville is seeking a Molecular Technologist to manage pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing processes. The role emphasizes quality, compliance with standards, and support for QA/QC/QI initiatives. You will troubleshoot and maintain equipment to ensure accurate results and timely reporting via LIS.

The schedule runs Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. A Bachelor's or Associate degree in laboratory science is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent education and training.

Responsibilities

  • Performs simple to complex assays utilizing established departmental protocols.
  • Reads, understands, and adheres to all SOPs, policies, and protocols.
  • Performs pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing processes accurately and timely.
  • Reports results via the LIS.
  • Prepares clinical specimens for testing and identifies specimen related problems.
  • Maintains quality control measures and conducts instrument maintenance as required.
  • Documents quality control, calibrations, certifications and supports QA/QC/QI initiatives.
  • Identifies problems affecting test performance and reports findings to supervisor.
  • Documents corrective actions when test systems deviate from specs.
  • Maintains efficient workflow, monitors TAT and supports validation documentation.

Education

Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent education and training.

Overview

UWH of The Carolinas Laboratory is looking for a skilled Molecular Technologist who is passionate about quality and precision in laboratory testing. This role involves managing pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing processes, maintaining compliance with quality standards, and supporting QA/QC/QI initiatives. The successful candidate will also help troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and timely test results.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Responsibilities
  • Performs simple to complex assays utilizing established departmental protocols.
  • Reads, understands, and adheres to all the SOPs, policies, and protocols.
  • Performs all pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing processes accurately and timely, as well as independently.
  • Reports results via the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Prepares clinical specimens for testing and identifies specimen related problems.
  • Establishes and performs proper quality control measures (i.e. temperature monitoring, instrument maintenance, reagent/specimen preparation, etc.) in accordance with laboratory operating standards.
  • Documents daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly quality control (e.g. equipment/instrument maintenance, calibrations, certifications) to support quality assurance initiatives.
  • Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance, reporting of test results, or instrument functions. Troubleshoots and/or reports findings to supervisor, manager, or director.
  • Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specification.
  • Assists the supervisor in ensuring an efficient workflow operation and reports any delays and/or problems.
  • Monitors TAT and workflow processes.
  • Assists in preparation of validation documentation of new tests and procedures as assigned.
  • Maintain records that demonstrate that PT samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
  • Cleans and maintains lab equipment, instrumentation, and work space.
  • Maintains and tracks inventory for reagents, consumables, and ancillaries to support laboratory functions.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations when handling laboratory specimens.
  • Comply with chemical hygiene and/or laboratory safety procedures.
  • Comply with all lab procedures, processes, and methodologies.
